Many words can be used to describe Beaver Theodosakis, who founded and lead prAna with his wife Pam 23 years ago. The words and phrases include: visionary, soulful leader, mindful, sharp but approachable, passion-centric. Beaver and Pam are climbers, yogis, outdoor and environmentalists, parents and community members – AND entrepreneurs. It’s intertwined, and that’s part of the secret to the success of prAna. It’s what attracted the right team members, the right customers and end consumers. It’s what built the culture of prAna. Beaver and Pam are mentors to me, and have taught me SO much about being a founder and how to use business as a vehicle for positive change. Beaver and Pam always prioritized doing the right thing for prAna’s people, customers and for the planet. That was always the directional driver for prAna. This podcast will inspire you and if you’re not already a fan of prAna, you’ll quickly become one after experiencing the entrepreneurial journey Beaver and Pam lead from day one to the recent sale of prAna to the perfect new home (Beav’s words) in Columbia Sportswear. (Full transparency: My brand communications company, Verde, had the privilege of supporting prAna through eight pivotal years and I count Beaver and Pam as early and highly influential mentors of my own journey.) It’s my great hope that this interview will offer the same mentorship experience to you. This is a very special interview and it’s very personal. Please share with anyone who you believe will be inspired… Follow Intrepid Entrepreneur to get more updates (especially about our upcoming weekly giveaways) by joining our community on Twitter + Instagram (@GoLivingUber) and on Facebook. Six years ago, Marc Nager was sitting on his couch after losing his job, wondering what his next move should be. Was he feeling that all-too-familiar grip known as the fear of the unknown? Heck yes! It’s a moment so many of us as entrepreneurs have experienced. Instead of going after a safe corporate gig, he did what any member of the LivingUber community would do – he chose a next step fueled by passion, not by safety. Marc joined the 54-hour mini-incubator Startup Weekend, part of non-profit UP-Global. He joined a team that built a global community and resource center for entrepreneurs and developed a commitment to furthering the power of entrepreneurs in powering today’s (and tomorrow’s) global economy. On June 18, when I interviewed Marc for The Intrepid Entrepreneur, the news broke that UP Global/Startup Weekend was purchased by Techstars, a Colorado-based accelerator program for entrepreneurs. Listen in as Marc talks about this amazing journey and the future of UP Global, Startup Weekend and Techstars! A serial entrepreneur in the outdoor industry, Steve Sullivan (Sulli) is Kristin’s guest this week on The Intrepid Entrepreneur podcast. Sulli was the co-founder of Cloudveil, and five years ago, he launched www.stio.com, a mountain-lifestyle brand and retail experience founded in Jackson Hole, Wyo. Stio launched with a website, catalog and storefront on Jackson’s Town Square. Sulli and his team persevered despite the fact that many of his peers in the outdoor industry questioned his vision. To him, that was a sign he was going in the right direction and his vision has been paying off. Stio just opened its first flagship store outside of Jackson in Chicago. Very few entrepreneurs in the world can say that they started their first business when they were a wee young lad – for Matt Hunckler, founder of Verge, he started his first business in high school!

First, a bit about Vergehq.com. It’s basically Silicon Valley’s neighbor to the East, er – Midwest. More specifically, Verge is the largest platform in the Midwest for software entrepreneurs, developers and business investors. It’s growing like wildfire! There are over 3,000 active members in many cities and Matt has his sites set on more than doubling the cities that are still “unlocked” in terms of having Verge presences.

Okay, back to Matt. So that high-school business? It gave Matt the Fever BIG TIME – the fever to be an entrepreneur that is. Not bad for a guy who started his post-college career selling vacuums door-to-door. Verge is actually Matt’s third start up, and he’s still quite young (you’d never guess he has three start ups under his belt, look at his picture!). Listen in today to learn about what motivates Matt and how he's building an amazing tribe in Verge.

Mike is a legendary leader in the outdoor active lifestyle markets. In this podcast, he talks about what it was like for him to leave a multi-decade career with leadership roles at Sierra Designs, Mountain Hardwear, and Timbuk2 to start his own business, Outdoor Pursuits Consulting.

This move was very intentional; meaning, he didn't just hang out a shingle to bridge himself from one post to the next within the safety (and confines) of corporate. He took this next step specifically to bring his passions back into 20-20 focus, to cross-train his experience in new markets and to spend more time outdoors in Northern California's beaches and mountains.
